Starry Night, 4″ x 84″ with hand-made pin, silk and wool fibers; nuno felted.  By Voila Remy.

Today is the last day of the surface design extravaganza that is the Surface Design Association Scarf and Shawl Auction.  Proceeds from the auction support the Creative Promise Awards, conference scholarships, and  SDA grants.

Not only are there shibori, nuno felt, handpainted silk, woven silk, dyed and discharged silk and other beautiful techniques and materials used to create scarves and shawls, but there are also magazine subscriptions, online workshops, DVDs, and books.

It’s not too early to be holiday shopping for those (including yourself) who really appreciate the finer things in life.

The Surface Design Association’s scarf and shawl auction is now open (even though their website header hadn’t been updated last time I checked).

There are over 100 gorgeous scarves and shawls, but there are also books, DVDs, magazine subscriptions, etc.  All items are donated and the proceeds benefit the Creative Promise Awards, conference scholarships, SDA grants, and more.

If you want the best in surface design, I can’t think of a better place to shop than this fundraiser for the Surface Design Association.
