“I Beelieve”: Mixed-media quilt by Judy Coates Perez

I Beelieve by Judy Coates Perez

Judy Coates Perez is an award-winning textile artist who is well known for her highly detailed, colorfully painted whole cloth quilts. She explores themes drawn from folklore, mythology and nature, working in a variety of media.

Often blending quilting skills with techniques drawn from her graphic arts background, she uses textile paints, dyes, inks, acrylic powders, artist’s pencils and craft metal on her art quilts and mixed media textile work.

Judy has generously donated this artwork to Fiberart For A Cause’s fifth annual Invitational Reverse Auction of Fiberarts to be held March 24 – 26, 2009.

100% of the proceeds are donated directly to the American Cancer Society.

I Beelieve includes cotton fabric painted with textile paints and paper collage fused to heavy weight interfacing and machine quilted. Aluminum metal was machine stitched and embossed with freehand drawn designs. The doors of the house are open to reveal a glimpse of nature. The artwork is 5.5×9.5”

Judy has written numerous articles for Quilting Arts and Cloth Paper Scissors magazines and has been a guest multiple times on Quilting Arts TV. Judy has also been published in The Quilting Arts book, Mixed Mania, Prize-Winning Quilts: The Best of the International Quilt Association ShowsContemporary Quilting: Exciting Techniques and Quilts from Award-Winning Quilters.

Update:  Judy has generously written a little technique talk about this artwork on her blog.

Believe by Karen Stiehl Osborn

Karen Stiehl Osborn has posted her collages for Collage Mania here.  I love them!

It’s not too early to submit YOUR jpegs for Collage Mania 2009.  The Call for Artists is here.

The deadline is April 1, 2009, but collages are displayed for patrons to peruse in, more or less, the order in which they are received.  I also will be featuring collages here on my blog right up to Preview Week 2009.

Let Karen – Karen(at)KarenStiehlOsborn.com –  know you are planning to participating this year and she will add your name to the growing list of artists.

Our goal is to raise $20,000 for the American Cancer Society in three days. Last year we raised over $13,000 with more than 200 collages, so you can do the math about how many wonderful collages will be needed for 2009.

Please let me know if you have any questions and thank you in advance for your support!

Learn a new skill and make a donation to the ACS

Talk about win-win.  For a $5 donation to the American Cancer Society, you can learn all about machine wrapped cording through a multi-media workbook.

According to its creator, Linda Matthews of Creative Textile and Quilting Arts, the  …multimedia ebook includes step-by-step instructions for making wrapped cording on your sewing machine, including video, sample photos, options and applications, tips and tricks, and resources.

The ebook requires the current version of Adobe Reader which is free, and contains its own flash player so you can view the video on your desktop without the hassle of downloading any further software. It also contains a printable copy of the lessons which you can use to compile a workbook for your samples.

All this is yours for a tiny little $5.00 donation. Go get it !

I previewed the Machine Wrapped Cording Workbook and it is not only a how-to, but what-to-do-with-it tutorial.  The workbook is easy to use, with clear instructions, great photos and a very helpful video.

I’m amazed at the beautiful workbook computer-savvy Linda has produced and equally impressed by her donation of all proceeds to the American Cancer Society through Fiberart For A Cause.

The deadline to send your jpegs to Karen is April 1, 2009, but do remember that collages are shown in more or less the order they are received.

Collage Mania will be held May 5 – 7, 2009 with all collages offered for a minimum donation of $80 to the American Cancer Society through Fiberart For A Cause on Gold Donor Day, May 5, and a minimum donation of $40 on May 6 and May 7.
