More artwork to help all-breed animal rescue with vet bills

Karen Stiehl Osborn is selling small artworks on her blog to benefit Hands, Hearts & Paws, an all-breed animal rescue in Omaha, NE.  She has just posted a mini-collection including my Black Stone:

Virginia A. Spiegel

This artwork would make a nice companion piece to mine:

Karen works hard to benefit this rescue because:

Often they accept the dogs that no other rescue will take, usually because of expensive medical needs. Recently they had a surgical bill of $1000 for a dog that had a prong collar embedded in his neck and a chunk of wood puncturing his trachea. Now they have a dog that has tested positive for heartworms and a dog that needs surgery for a luxating patella. Both of those dogs’ treatments will run hundreds of dollars each. I volunteer with this rescue, because I truly believe that they put the needs of the dogs ahead of all politics and financial concerns.

I am asking for your help to raise funds for these medical bills. I will be selling Artist Trading Cards for $20 each, until I run out of cards to sell. The rescue has several events scheduled for the coming months, and I will be selling the artwork at these events, plus selling them online through my blog and Facebook.

If you are an artist, please consider donating an ATC to the cause. If you are a patron, please consider purchasing a small artwork to support the rescue and enhance your own art collection.

Photo from Art and Science Exhibit

BJ Parady attended the opening of Stitched Together: Art and Science at Fermilab Gallery in Batavia, IL.  She sent me this great photo of the exhibit with my “Boundary Waters 52 (Knowing)” in the center of this group of artwork.

More information is here with photos of all the artwork.  The exhibit is sponsored by Studio Art Quilt Associates – Wisconsin/Illinois.

Small artwork to help rescued animals

milkweed 3 by Virginia A. Spiegel
Sold (But check Karen’s blog for more upcoming choices)

My friend, Karen Stiehl Osborn, is raising funds to help with the uber-expensive vet bills of an animal rescue.  I happily made and donated eight special ATCs (small artworks the size of baseball trading cards).  milkweed 3 is now up on Karen’s blog (just scroll down an entry or two).  You can expect to see more artwork available on her blog in the near future.

More information from Karen if you would like to help by buying or donating artwork:

I love milkweed as a subject for artwork because of its architectural shape in leaves, blooms, pods, and seeds.  milkweed 3 is watercolor paper mounted to cardstock and includes watercolor, ink, acrylic paint, and a print from a hand-cut lino block.

A Wonderful Fiber BONUS from BJ Parady

This is the first of many early previews of one of the ninety special fiber BONUSES to be offered during Foto/Fiber 2012.

It is a small portion of the BONUS being assembled by BJ Parady.  All the special BONUSES will be mailed directly to the donor in a size 0 padded envelope.  That’s the size that holds a CD case nicely.

Shown as part of BJ’s bonus are: silk paper (which BJ made), dyed silk cocoons, specialty threads, and silk fabrics dyed by BJ. I love the colors and textures BJ has chosen. Of course, BJ will be adding more to her BONUS; we want the contents of each of the ninety BONUSES to surprise and amaze the lucky donor that receives it.

More BONUS previews will be coming here and on the individual websites/blogs of the artists.

I asked the donors to make the BONUSES wonderfully wonderful, creative, and unique. You might receive a small work of art, handpainted or dyed fabric, screen printed Lutradur, vintage kimono scraps, a small original screen for printing, dyed embroidery thread, a small bundle of “magical” raw materials, etc., etc.

Our goal is to raise $7000 in just ten hours over two days to add to the $215,000 Fiberart For A Cause has already donated to the American Cancer Society.
