What I’m Working On

artbraweb

Art bra!  Haven’t a clue really how to do it.  But my sister is organizing an art bra display celebrating women for a local hospital and I said I would make one to take to meetings, etc.  My theme is the contrast between our nuturing part and the part of us that has to be tough as nails. The soft side shown in progress is cat hair and fibers felted in little balls (I know, weird).  But I figured that washed cat hair wouldn’t bother anyone with allergies. The hard part on the opposite side is taking a little thinking. I’m glad I chose a padded bra on which to work.  Every surface needs to be covered, so I have definitely done the easy part.

A new Boundary Waters is up and in progress.  As Fall deepens, so does my color palette.  This one is going to be textural  +++++.  I have it almost collaged together and have already broken two jean needles.  All the stitching yet to go.  This is a teeny-tiny part of the whole that will be quite big as it needs to meet some specific requirements for a juried exhibit.

Books, books, books. A very time consuming task, but I am a big fan of Blurb books. The cover shown is from a book I did for my sister and me of our first thirteen Boundary Waters adventures. I have three books in progress including Wild on the Edges: Inspiration from a Creative Life. It’s a very personal and idiosyncratic collection of essays and photos.  Stay tuned!

Surface Design auction opens today

97878702.275.275
Shibori Silk Scarf donated by Meredith Strauss

The Surface Design Association’s scarf and shawl auction is now open (even though their website header hadn’t been updated last time I checked).

There are over 100 gorgeous scarves and shawls, but there are also books, DVDs, magazine subscriptions, etc.  All items are donated and the proceeds benefit the Creative Promise Awards, conference scholarships, SDA grants, and more.

If you want the best in surface design, I can’t think of a better place to shop than this fundraiser for the Surface Design Association.
