Markings

The mature shagbark hickories in my backyard are a continual source of inspiration for me.  Their bare shadows are the most dynamic part of the landscape at the moment.

Boundary Waters 25

In celebration of its 20th year as an international community of artists, Studio Art Quilt Associates will be touring a special exhibition: SAQA@20: Art & Excellence.  This invitational exhibition was curated by Patricia Bolton, Editor-in-Chief of both Quilting Arts and Cloth, Paper, Scissors magazines and a SAQA board member.

The premier of SAQA@20:  Art & Excellence will be October 15-18, 2009 at International Quilt Festival, Houston, Texas and includes my Boundary Waters 25, shown above. This artwork is part of the Boundary Waters series and is a study of the tall cliffs that surround many of the Boundary Waters’ lakes.

Glow

I had to go out in the rain yesterday as the daffodils were trying so hard to bloom in the gloom of the day that they were glowing. For those of us who experience winter, daffodils are the ray of hope in the Spring that keep us going until it decides to really warm up.  We are still below freezing at night, so the daffs are quite short this year.

Mystery

These purple leaves turning green surprised the heck out of me when I was out poking around in the mulch, so I wanted to share them today also.  There is nothing better than finding a surprise in your garden in the Spring.  My sister gave me bluebells and Solomon’s seal last year.  Perhaps these are the bluebells.  After the upheavals of winter, my labels are inconclusive of what is where!
