Collection of Jan Girod

Last year, Karen Stiehl Osborn and I gave Collage Mania a whirl on my blog and, thanks to generous patrons, raised $510 for the American Cancer Society in one day.

If you are a collage artist and would like to participate in Collage Mania II or have any questions after reading the guidelines below, please e-mail me at Virginia@VirginiaSpiegel.com

Guidelines for Collage Mania II - A Fiberart For A Cause fundraiser for the American Cancer Society

Collage Mania II will be held on my website on Monday, May 5.

All materials are acceptable, but collages should contain some fiber (paper, fabric, or other fibrous material).

Collages may be any size, but they must be mounted on 8×10 inch Bristol or mat board.

Size the collage itself to match your pricing scheme as all collages will be offered for a $40 donation to the ACS through Fiberart For A Cause.

Limit ten collages per artist.

Collages will be sent by you directly to their purchaser.

Send low resolution jpegs of your artwork to me by April 1:

Jpegs should be 72 dpi with the longest side measuring 350 pixels.
I have found that scanning the collage works very well in showing the details.

Jpgs should be of the work itself and not include the mounting board.

Please label your jpegs as follows:
FirstInitialLastNameCollageNumber. Example: VSpiegelCollage1

Please make the subject line of the e-mail sending your collage jpgs: Collage Mania Submission

In the body of your e-mail, please include the following:
Your Name
Collage 1: Name of your collage
Size: h x w inches
Materials:

Please indicate whether your collage is mounted on Bristol or mat board as each collage materials list will be followed by this statement: Mounted on 10″h x 8″w Bristol (or mat) board, signed, dated and ready for framing.

I reserve the right to not accept any collage for Collage Mania II.

Please check the main Fiberart For A Cause webpage for updates and to see who is already planning to participate.

Thank you for your support of this Fiberart For A Cause event.

Inspiration and The Garbage Day Project

See that’s what happens. I couldn’t believe we still had green grass in December last week. No need to worry about that any more. Snow, snow and more snow. It is glorious! It’s always great to be out in the snow photographing grasses, seed pods and branches.

The severe world of black branches and tan grasses against blue-white snow in the low light is as beautiful as any summer day. Of course, today the snow-world has become ice-world, but it’s never boring in the Midwest.

Of course, there’s a new post on The Garbage Day Project today. I finally admit there are some things that are just garbage.

And, for subscribers to Art, Nature, Creativity, Life, a heads-up that I have posted my favorite photo of 2007 with some end-of-the year thoughts in New Stuff.

Boundary Waters 25

This artwork and Boundary Waters 26 followed the Cliff Study whose techniques I discussed in this post.

That post inspired Del Thomas to do a little experimenting of her own. Go and see what she has been up to with her “skinny strips” here.
