I can’t believe it’s Tuesday already. There’s a new post, of course, on The Garbage Day Project.

What an appropriate photo for Garbage Day. It’s a dandelion gone to seed. The stem is the most gorgeous pink.

Martha Sielman, Executive Director of Studio Quilt Art Associates, sent not only this haiku,

Musings, inspiration,

Virginia’s e-book.

but also a lovely review of the eBook, Art, Nature, Creativity, Life. The eBook will be released this coming Monday, October 8 with 100% of the proceeds going directly to the American Cancer Society.

Thank you, Martha! I hope everyone who reads the eBook is inspired to write a poem. It is stuffed full of essays, photos, book recommendations and haikus of interest to artists, gardeners, armchair philosophers, and nature lovers.

New book, “The Quilt,” features Fiberart For A Cause

I just received a copy of The Quilt by Elise Schebler Roberts. This is a gorgeous 348-page book with the subtitle: A History and Celebration of an American Art Form.

Of particular interest to me is the chapter entitled Quilting for Life and Death with a section on Quilting to Comfort or Find Cures. Elise was kind enough to include Fiberart For A Cause, even though at the time she was writing the book I was unsure what could follow the unbelievably successful postcard project.

Of special note is a special four-page spread written by Ami Simms about her very moving and successful fundraiser, the Alzheimer’s Art Quilt Initiative.

Elise’s summary says it all, “Quilters are redefining traditional approaches to life and death issue through their art, whether that art is produced for remembrance, awareness, or to raise money. Making the quilts provides quilters with a way to take control of a situation, at a time when they are feeling as if everything is out of their hands.”
