Boundary Waters 19

Whew! Just finished sewing the sleeve on this work. It is 105″ long, so I am thrilled to have that done. This piece was inspired by the “Mother Trees” in the Boundary Waters. They are fallen logs, full of knot holes, slowly rotting away and providing a good environment for new trees to sprout and grow.

Then and Now (detail)

Join me next week in my Virtual Studio at the Make It University area sponsored by Cloth Paper Scissors magazine at International Quilt Festival-Chicago.

I will be transforming white Kona cotton fabric into art fabric with brayer painting, stamping, stenciling, monoprinting, screenprinting, and much more. I’m an enthusiastic (OK, messy) painter and plan on creating a lot of new and exciting fabric.

Pokey Bolton, Lesley Riley and other great mixed-media artists from the pages of Cloth Paper Scissors will also have Virtual Studios. Chat with artists, see techniques being demonstrated, and join what promises to be a fun and creative party.

My Virtual Studio hours are:

Friday, April 13
10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
3:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Saturday, April 14

The Garbage Day Project update

Tuesday, April 3rd, 2007

It’s Tuesday, so it’s time for a Garbage Day Project update.

I chose today’s bonus photo for two reasons: I missed last week’s GDP post because I was in California at the Asilomar State Park beach pictured AND I think this photo is structurally very similar to today’s GDP photo.

Here is Boundary Waters #21 and a detail from it.

Boundary Waters #22 is similar and I think there will be a Boundary Waters #23 in the same vein as I have one more piece of black duck cloth with Shiva paint stick writing on it.

I wasn’t sure if I would be able to sustain interest in this topic for a year (my goal), but as with most artwork, the more you do, the more interesting it becomes.
