Inspiration and The Garbage Day Project

Golden

It’s a beautiful day when you can take a photo like this and never touch it with Photoshop. This was at the prairie reserve with the sun going down much too quickly.

And, of course, there’s a new post today on The Garbage Day Project. Included today is another garbage art comment on my love of coffee, Mr. Coffee Is My Friend.

Inspiration and The Garbage Day Project

Patina

These are birdhouse gourds. And, yes, I really do make birdhouses from them, although it is a pain to do and they don’t last very long. But each gourd is beautiful in its own way and the mold they form as they dry makes a lovely patina on the surface. These are still quite green. Patience is needed

Of course, there is a new post on The Garbage Day Project today with a link to a fun recycling and art blog.

I wanted to mention, before it is too late, artist Claudine Intner’s online exhibit and fundraiser, Art Now for Autism.

Visit the website today as artwork from 26 artists, including fiber artists Pamela Allen, Christi Beckman, Karen Loprete, Sylvia Weir, and Beth Wheeler, will be available only through October 31. All money raised will go to Autism Speaks and Cure Autism Now.

“The Garbage Day Project” Post and Inspiration

Circle

I can’t believe it’s Tuesday already. There’s a new post, of course, on The Garbage Day Project.

What an appropriate photo for Garbage Day. It’s a dandelion gone to seed. The stem is the most gorgeous pink.

Art From Garbage – “Counting The Days”

Count The Days – detail

In place of an inspiration photo today, I decided to share some art MADE from garbage since it’s Tuesday and that means there’s a new post on The Garbage Day Project blog.

Count The Days is made from OTC drug and gum packaging, wax, gum and a piece of vinyl used as a painting surface to protect the table while I was doing my residency at Great Expectations Creativity Center in Texas. There is also a Count The Days 2.

Here’s the artwork under the needle of my trusty little Bernina.

gdaywax.jpg
It looks pretty boring if photographed on a flat surface.

gdaywaxandvinyl2.jpg
But put a light behind it, here natural light on a very cloudy day, and all kinds of interesting things happen. The detail photo at the top of this post was taken with a halogen light behind it.

And even the back is beautiful (halogen light behind it). These are two-sided pieces with not only beautiful in themselves, but they offer so many possibilities for photographs to be used for screenprinting, direct printing to organza, etc.

Two previous Art From Garbage projects: It’s Like Love and Autumn Trellis. You will need to scroll down to the end of the webpage to see Autumn Trellis. It was part of the very first day of The Garbage Day Project.

New post on The Garbage Day Project blog

ftgrassandfog.jpg

An ironing board with pink legs–who could resist that? Visit The Garbage Day Project for today’s photos and news about garbage, art and recycling.

Today’s bonus photo is a closeup of fountain grass. I bought a flat of grasses at a plant sale and thought they were miscanthus sinensis (tall), but they turned out to be these lovely, short grasses. I have never really appreciated them until today with the delicate seed heads swaying in the fog and mist.
