Then and Now (detail)

Join me next week in my Virtual Studio at the Make It University area sponsored by Cloth Paper Scissors magazine at International Quilt Festival-Chicago.

I will be transforming white Kona cotton fabric into art fabric with brayer painting, stamping, stenciling, monoprinting, screenprinting, and much more. I’m an enthusiastic (OK, messy) painter and plan on creating a lot of new and exciting fabric.

Pokey Bolton, Lesley Riley and other great mixed-media artists from the pages of Cloth Paper Scissors will also have Virtual Studios. Chat with artists, see techniques being demonstrated, and join what promises to be a fun and creative party.

My Virtual Studio hours are:

Friday, April 13
10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
3:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Saturday, April 14
10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
3:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.

Sunday, April 15
10:00 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.
2:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m.

LOVE Then and Now. Awesome work. I have been watching your work since you were in Texas. I will be at Rosemont this year working for a friend and plan on stopping by to say hello!

Kathy - Thank you! If I have enough room I am going to bring Then and Now along and have it out for viewing. There’s a lot to see.

I’m looking forward to meeting you. I hope the Virtual Studio area will be a big party for both the artists and visitors. I know I plan on having fun!

    Warm regards,Virginia

Virginia, I went to your website and I love the story about how Then and Now came about. How did you EVER have the courage??? And after it had been quilted!!??! Amazing.

Kathy - As I said in my artist’s statement for Then and Now, sometimes I was sure I had ruined it. But then the next time I was painting, I would add another layer and all was well. It’s very freeing to know that no artwork ever has to be finished-finished! Warm regards, Virginia
