Thanks a million! Hits, that is.

July 26

I finally took the time to look at my summary stats for last year. That’s right 1,826,933 hits.

My stats include both my blogs and website, but, still! Over 51,000 unique visitors stopped by for 97,896 visits. I really had no idea.

Thank you, dear readers! I think this deserves a little appreciation gift on my part. I will be giving away the above artwork to one lucky reader. (The deadline has now passed for completing the opinion survey to be entered in the drawing. Thank you for all your comments. I will announce the winner on Friday. )

    Virginia,

Congratulations on your blog hits for last year! Love everything about your blog. I especialy like your Garbage Day project posts! Would love to see more from the studio posts!

  2. karen christensen Says:

How exciting! I always look forward to reading your blog. Tutorials are a big hit and of course your artwork. The Garbage Day project is a favorite too.

  3. Karen Krull Robart Says:

Congrats, Virginia! Quite a milestone for one year, and no one deserves it more than you. My favorite posts on your blog are the technique ones (and you can’t tell me that surprises you), though everything about it is wonderful. What I would like to see on your website is the ability to really zoom in on the artwork to see the details up close - having seem them in person, they are so much more impressive when you can get inches away. I wish I had the technical knowledge to tell you how that is done, but I know I’ve been on websites that let you zoom in closer and closer to see details. (Google the British artist Alison Holt and see what I mean.) I think your website is one of the best textile arts ones around, and how you manage it and this blog and your continuing support of ACS is beyond me. Keep up the fantastic work!
    Karen

  4. Lynne Croswell Says:

Your Garbage Day blog is my favorite. I love the way you photograph the trash in such an artful way - almost like “can you guess what this is?”. And I really like your beautiful photographs on this blog, whether they are of your own art work or of your inspirations. The colors and textures are a delight for the eye and an inspiration for the soul. It is fun to see how your photos inspire your work

  5. Susan Kennedy Says:

Hi Virginia,Congratulations–all those hits means we are all enjoying your blog and website! I particularly enjoy your posts from the workshop. I love to hear about the thought processes and inspirations that lead you to create your wonderful art. It’s comforting to know that even an accomplished artist such as yourself occasionally hits a wall, and eventually finds a way through or around it. That gives us all hope!
I guess my least favorite (as if I actually have a least favorite)is the Garbage Day Project, but hey, I read it too-one never knows how or where inspiration will stike!
I thought I sent a comment early today, but may not have hit the submit button–if it shows up, I apologize for the duplicate.

  6. Vicki Bailey Says:

I love any and all of your photos regardless of subject matter–that “one picture is worth a thousand words” thing? And I love when you explain how you made something–the creative process in words?–or maybe the “tutorials” is the word I’m looking for.

  7. Alys Myers Says:

I love both your website and your garbage day project equally.
I would love to see more studio related information, like tutorials and shop talk.
Congrats on your huge readership! I’m proud to be one.

  8. terry grant Says:

A million hits–wow! My answers to your questions will not be very useful because I enjoy all the categories and would hate to mention one that I like less for fear that you would eliminate it or give it less attention, but what I really love the most is just seeing your art work. Next, I really enjoy the Garbage Day project. Entertaining and thought-provoking.

  9. Debby Leonard Says:

Congrats Virginia, You are making SUCH a difference in the world! I love you artwork posts, the Fiberarts for a Cause, techniques, and never miss the garbage day posts! Thanks for everything you do.

  10. Barb Hollenback Says:

I love the garbage day project. It brings about awareness of what we
throw away, and that we should do more recycle, recycle. Plus you have
shown me that there are many design possibilities in what is tossed.

I would love to see more ‘work in progress’, especially re how you get
from the idea to putting it on cloth.

Your work is wonderful, and I admire your many talents.

  11. Gisela Towner Says:

Wow! Pretty impressive, but well deserved!
I really enjoy the studio and special events and artwork posts. Your inspiration photos are also very special. The Garbage Day Project is wonderful and often thought-provoking.
    Hmmmm — guess I don’t have a least-favorite!

  12. Denise Aumick Says:

Ok…I’ll play and stick with the positives…

I love reading and seeing entries related to the Garbage Day Project.

I’d love to see more techique, how to related entries.

  13. Judy Says:

Congrats on all of those hits.

I particularly enjoy the Garbage Day Project and am in withdrawal now that you have suspended it until warmer weather.

I also love your inspiration pieces and your studio stuff.

Actually, what’s not to love? It’s all very colorful, thought-provoking and inspirational to me. As they say in these parts: “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”!

  14. Terri Says:

My favorite is looking at your artwork and studio pictures. But overall I like it all.

  15. Elaine Millar Says:

I love best all the photos of your art work. I especially like when they involve the process of your art work as they do when you are an Artist in Residence. You could do more of that even when you are in residence at home. LOL

What I love best about your web site is that it is not cluttered. It is clean white space with black type and so easy to navigate. And, screen loading is quick.

  16. Michelle Says:

Congratulations, Virginia! How wonderful that your blog is so far reaching! I really love the Garbage Day Project and look forward to that post each week. I love your inspiration photos here, and would love to see more techniques when you are experiementing. I’m sure the new year will be just as grand! Michelle

  17. Tomme Fent Says:

What do I love to see the most? Photos, photos, and more photos. The types of posts I would like to see more of are those where you talk about your own artwork — your process, techniques, inspirations, etc. The types of posts I like the least are those that just contain announcements, with none of your own artwork or photos. Hey, I’m prejudiced - I love your work!

  18. Lynn Says:

How great Virginia! Its well deserved! :)

I really enjoy your inspirational photographs and would like to see more of those. To be honest, I would be hard pressed to think of any blog posts that I dislike.

  19. Patty Says:

I really, really love your inspirational photos! When I see them, it gives me ideas for future projects. I also love the garbage day project! That explains why you get so many hits! Keep ‘em coming!!
    Thanks

  20. Elaine Millar Says:

    Hi Virginia,

It’s me again. Here is my one suggestion. The blue in the header on the Garbage Day blog is too intense. The Garbage Day project feels “green” to me. I love it as it reminds me of how I should care more about what I buy and what I throw away. I think the header should be more organic and green. LOL

    Elaine

  21. Tricia McKellar Says:

I love it all, but my favorite of favorites is photos of your art, Virginia! :)

  22. susan schrott Says:

Virginia..Bravo yet again. You are a rare woman indeed.
I love everything on your blog. I am a visual learner so I appreciate when you have photos, especially of techniques. Garbage day is a winner! xoxoSusan
