Farewell to a studio friend

Alert eyes noticed the little feline sitting in the corner in this photo I posted quite some time ago of my old studio. I posted that photo on purpose as Mr. Pouncer was indeed a shy creature. I already had a rescued cat when I adopted Pouncer and his sister sight unseen from a friend. I asked for the shyest female kittens of the litter to make it easier for our formerly abused Purdue. It turned out Pouncer was a male and his sister was a bully. So we found the little girl a new home after a bit and welcomed another crazy cat to our home.
He hated strangers (everyone but Joe and I), doorbells, and loud noises. I called him my Klingon cat because if I sat down, he had to sit on my lap or be as close to me as possible. If we sat on the deck, he would make soundless distress meows at the screen door until we came in. He opened dresser drawers and laid on my clothes, he sat on a heating pad warmed basket while I was on the computer, he played great baseball, and he kept an ear out for all important activities from a soft perch on our bed while I was in the studio.
One night Joe came home very late from work. Pouncer heard the door open and shot off the bed growling. You have to love an attack cat. He was an only cat for the past five years and loved every minute of it.
Old age (almost 17 years) finally overcame his zest for life this past week. He will be missed.
Sorry to read of Dear Mr. Handsome Mancat, Mr. Pouncer. And yes! We do love attack cats with all our hearts! Big purrs to you.
Thank you for writing, Dawn, Frieda, and Elaine and for sharing. I appreciate it! V.
Hi Virginia, I’m so sorry to read about this as I know only too well how much you’ll miss Pouncer. I used to have 4 cats but now only have one left, who is 17 years old himself. I still think of my other cats every day and remember their quirks and habits with a smile. It won’t help at the moment but you’ll treasure those memories of him so much in the future and can comfort yourself with the thought that he had a really fantastic life with you! Thinking of you, Frieda
I’m so sorry for your loss. Your words speak of a strong bond between you and Mr. Pouncer.
I hope you’ll quickly open your door to more cats in need — a foundation of sorts in his name perhaps? I have three and they rule my life while making it liveable. One’s curled up in the inbox as I type.
Dawn
Hi Virginia,
Know what you are going through. I lost by 15 year old Buddy on 9-12. See my blog for a photo of my wonderful old dog. Miss him dearly.
So sorry about your cat.
Elaine
Thank you for ALL your kind thoughts. I am surprised at my depth of emotion about Pouncer, but he is the last in a continuing line of cats that have served as friends and companions for the last twenty years. It is quite odd to NOT have the pitter-patter of four paws about. How helpful it is to have your generous understanding and kindness! V.
So sorry for the loss of your companion, Pouncer. Each pet that graces our lives with love and loyalty is a true blessing. My heart goes out to you.
So sorry about your beloved Pouncer. May he RIP. THey are such wonderful companions, it’s always hard to lose such dear friends.
RIP dear Pouncer. So sorry to hear of your loss. We have an very elderly kitty who won’t last much longer, either… I dread the day she leaves me.
i can fully understand you and my heart goes out to you. at the moment, one of my cats and i are fighting a battle and don’t know if we will win (partial paralysis after disc herniation).
Always precious and always remembered.
It is so hard to lose these fierce, dear, and constant companions. My heart goes out to you.
Melanie
