Firing Up the Dye Buckets

2007dyedfabric.jpg

I paint all the fabrics I use in my artwork EXCEPT for the fabric I use to back art quilts or other textile art. Painting fabric is so time-consuming that I just can’t bear to use painted fabric for the back of anything.

So I fired up the dye buckets and dyed seven buckets full of fabric in two days (a sampling above). I use the submersion method detailed in Jane Dunneworld’s excellent Complex Cloth.

I always put the dye buckets out on my black driveway for maximum heat retention.

I love the feel and the smell of paint; here’s a previous blog entry about my tips for fabric painting. I, alas, lack an equal affinity for dyeing.

Von - Now that would assume I actually keep track. I did keep a dye notebook previously, but now I am on a mission just to use up my dye. So it’s dye, throw out the empty container and onward. I can tell you that they are all Procion MX and the green dye was mixed with Better Black and the blue is 406 Intense Blue plus another blue I finished off. Now you undoubtedly can believe that dyeing isn’t my thing!
    Warm regards, V.

Just as I thought! LOL you dye like I do :), one day I might want to find just the right color. But until then I like the surprise affect. Ohhh the dyeing police just might hunt us down… Thanks again for sharing.. I truely enjoy getting your updates.
