Sanctuary
We’re back in the snow and cold zone again. My yard looks very messy in the winter as I leave my ornamental grasses up all winter.
The birds inch out to the tops of the grass fronds for the seeds and then swing down to Earth before jumping off, flying up and starting all over again. I don’t mind when the grasses finally succumb and tip over. The little snow caves underneath make sanctuaries for birds and beasts.
The birds are so use to me putting out seed, and so desperate in the cold weather for fuel, that they let me stand quite close while they feed. Can you tell it was a mini-blizzard yesterday?

Louise – Yes, you have to love snow to live in the Midwest. It’s gorgeous today though with sun and all clean snow. Glad you are a bird feeder also. V.
Virginia…I love my yard birds also, although because of our warmer weather, mine are feeding on left over sunflower heads that I grew and then snapped off and hang off of my fence in varous locations so they can feed safely from all the cats in the neighborhood. We’re about the only yard that doesn’t have a dog, so the cats like to hang out and sun themselves without being disturbed…not great for the birds. Loved your bird feeder photo…and the snow..yikes, we’d be at a full standstill here in sunny california if it snowed like that. Louise Schiele, Sacramento
