Art, Nature, Creativity, Life - Good Questions!

maryroserose.jpg

I have received many good questions about my online book: Art, Nature, Creativity, Life. Please e-mail me if you have a question not answered below.

1. What is the book about?
Art, Nature, Creativity, Life is a compilation of the best issues of my e-newsletter of the same name, published since 2004 and read by over 1000 subscribers. Each of the nineteen chapters of the eBook will feature an expanded issue of the newsletter - more art, more behind the scenes visits to my studio, more poetry, more photos. And, I will be adding to the book, so if you prefer, you can think of it as a zine with many issues already published.

From the Introduction:

Make a cup of tea, settle into your favorite chair and wander through the issues at your leisure. You can spend ten minutes and be refreshed or spend several hours enjoying art, nature, poetry, photography and my take on the life of an artist. Enjoy and be inspired.

2. Why an online book?
I have had many requests for a book featuring the newsletters. I chose an online venue for this book for three reasons:

100% of the proceeds, rather than some portion, will go to the American Cancer Society.

Readers will be able to follow links back and forth among the chapter they are reading, other chapters in the book, and the web.

Photos, photos and more photos than would be possible in print. Over 80 are included to date.

3. How do I order to Art, Nature, Creativity, Life?
All the information you need to order is here. Even though you order one time with your donation, the book will just keep growing and growing as all my new essays, poems, book recommendations and exclusive photos will be added. Just check periodically on the Introduction page under “New Stuff.”

Please note you will be donating directly to the American Cancer Society and you will receive an electronic receipt. Once your donation is confirmed, I will send you a password. You can then access the book on the web any time and as many times as you choose.

Special Bonus Drawings: All donors prior to January 1, 2008 will be entered in a random drawing for some very snazzy books and, for those who are able to be a little more generous, there is a drawing for a $100 gift certificate to Flourish!

4. What will be the required minimum donation?
$25. Notice the clever phrasing of “minimum donation.” 100% of your donation will go directly to the American Cancer Society to aid research and education, so donations above the minimum will be celebrated and gratefully accepted. You can choose on the donation form to make your donation in honor of or in memory of someone, anonymously or not, and with amount revealed or not on the revolving Honor Roll.

Please note: The donation form will indicate that you are making a donation to the American Cancer Society through the Forest Lake, MN Relay For Life, an ACS fundraiser. For more information on how/why this is set up this way, please visit the FFAC Frequently Asked
Questions

5. I don’t like to read books on the web. May I print a copy?
Except for the essay that opens each chapter, the eBook is very visual and very interactive. This is one of the distinct advantages of an online book and why I am able to keep adding to it. I think you will enjoy “reading” it on the web best of all. However, you may print one copy for your own private use. Of course, all content is copyrighted by me and cannot be reproduced or shared in any other way.

6. What is the best way to read “Art, Nature, Creativity, Life”?
Treat this book as you would any other — browse, explore, bookmark your favorite chapters, and savor finding new treasures each time you open it.

7. May I make a donation and “send” Art, Nature, Creativity, Life as a gift to a friend?
Of course! Art, Nature, Creativity, Life would make a lovely and inspirational gift for a friend. Just let me know that you have made a donation and wish a friend to receive Art, Nature, Creativity, Life as a gift. You may notify the recipient and have them contact me for the password or I would be happy to send her/him an announcement of your generous gift.

8. Why are you publishing this book?
Fiberart For A Cause has raised over $135,000 for the American Cancer Society. I am committed to continue fundraising for the ACS in honor of my Dad, a colon cancer survivor, and in support of my sister, Nancy, who is chair of her local ACS Relay For Life.

This fundraiser joins the annual Invitational Reverse Auction of fabulous fiber art (Spring 2008) and Collage Mania (Summer 2008). All of the funds raised go directly to the ACS. Click here for a FAQ about Fiberart For A Cause.

Thank you for reading this very long post and, again, feel free to leave a comment or e-mail me privately.

    Virginia,

I would prefer to “hear” from you more regularly on your blog and you can not do the e-mail. Either way, it’s nice to have your inspiring notes!

Susie - It’s easy to step up and raise funds for a cause in which you believe. Who among us hasn’t been touched by this senseless, wasteful disease?

I believe the e-book will be a resource that can be re-visited again and again with something new to see or think about on every visit. “Art, Nature, Creativity, Life” should provide a calm respite from a busy, busy world.

Thank you, Susie, for writing. Virginia
