Sunday night - “peace” series unveiled.

peace 13

Apropo to the upcoming holiday season, I have been working on small artworks with the theme of “peace.”  I meant them to be 3×5″, but they grew to around 4×6″ each.  I say “around” that size as each seemed to have a mind of its own.

They are constructed of paper, paint, and ink - layer upon layer.  I used collage, stamping, and screenprinting.  Even though the base is collage, I think of them as small paintings with layers revealing and concealing.  The word “peace” is sometimes screenprinted, sometimes lettered, and sometimes typed on my vintage typewriter.  In some artworks “peace” is very distinct and in others it is almost hidden in the layers. Each is mounted to size on 140 lb. watercolor paper.

There will be more than 30 artworks available, $30 each, free shipping and available on a first-come, first-serve basis this coming Sunday, November 23 after 5 p.m CST.

Peace 13 is absolutely STUNNING! I haven’t had internet access for over a week, so I was anxious to see what you’ve been up to. This one is a real eye opener and I can harly wait to see all the rest on Sunday.

Van - Thank you! Since the base layer is paper, I mounted them to the watercolor paper with SOBO glue. The trick is to then press them under heavy books so they dry smooth and flat. V.

Virginia… Those are so incredible… I’m curious though I know they are mounted… but how do you mount them? glue? double sided tape? whats the trick…The last 2 pieces I have worked are multi media but still with a cloth base. Keep up the awesome posts.. I enjoy them in my mailbox!

Thanks, Tricia! This was a series that just kept growing as I layered and layered. So there is a basic palette, but much variation among the individual pieces. Seeing all 36 together is going to be great fun for patrons.

Addendum: I just wrote Patsy a personal note and decided others may need ideas on what to do with small artworks. You can mat and frame as is, easily adhere to matboard with linen tape (or acid-free glue dots) and frame, or mount on a card for a special holiday gift.

Oh, Virginia, these are lovely! Of the two posted, I can’t decide which I like more– the dark spaces in #13 draw me in, and the textures in #21 are just stunning… I can’t wait to see them all! Wishing you a peaceful holiday season! :)

Patsy - Thank you! Each one is mounted flush on sturdy 140 lb. watercolor paper. They are signed and dated on the back. All 36 will be up on my website Sunday after 5 p.m. V.
