Art Quilt. Cotton, rayon and poly organza fabric, raw edge machine appliqué and thread work. Mounted on canvas stretchers; it can be hung as is or framed.

Leni Levenson Wiener is a former professional photographer and sculptor who has focused exclusively on art quilts for the past several years.  Her subjects are very photographic in nature and always start with her own photographs. She loves the combination of the hard angles of architecture and the softness of the human form, and tries to choose subjects that invite the viewer to create their own story about the piece.  Her challenge is to find fabrics that reflect the mood, texture and color that need to be conveyed.  All work is done in raw edge machine appliqué, welcoming puckers and unraveling, which is the inherent nature of fabric.

In the past year, Leni’s work has been shown in major art quilt venues across the country.  Her book Thread Painting: Simple Techniques to Add Texture and Dimension (Krause) was released in September, 2007.  She teaches extensively everything from basic beginner quilting to art quilting, and runs a monthly art quilt workshop. Leni is a member of Surface Design Association, International Quilt Association, and is NY co-rep for Studio Art Quilters Associates.
