The black bird is painted with Shiva Paintstiks on fabric and machine appliqued onto a fabric collage background. The piece is free motion machine quilted.
Elin Waterston holds a BA and an MFA in costume design. Following graduate school, she worked as a wardrobe stylist in film and television and in costume shops building costumes and masks, painting, dyeing and manipulating fabrics. She began making art quilts in 1991, incorporating surface design and photography into fiber art. Her award winning art quilts are in many public and private collections and have been exhibited in numerous art galleries. Elin teaches art at the Katonah Art Center in Katonah, NY, and is the co-author, with Jane Davila, of Art Quilt Workbook (C&T 2007).
