Creating textile art is the ultimate self expression for
Cynthia St. Charles.   Starting with either plain white or black fabric, Cynthia works improvisationally with surface design techniques to create one-of-a-kind textiles that form the basis of her wearable art and art quilts.

Cynthia’s working style is intuitive.  She starts with only a vague mental plan, later to discover that her subconscious has taken over, revealing a deeper connotation.  Her work resonates with an undercurrent psychological and humanistic significance, fueled by environmental inspiration from her native Montana homeland.

Textile art provided a personal therapeutic outlet throughout Cynthia’s former career as a School Psychologist.  Recently, she found herself empowered to walk away from that high stress vocation to follow her calling as a textile artist.

Cynthia is a fourth generation Montanan with deep roots in the ranching lifestyle.  She grew up riding horseback, wrangling sheep, and branding cattle in Montana’s Gallatin Valley. As an adult, Cynthia’s path has led her to live near Chicago, on Maryland’s Eastern Shore and the deep south in Montgomery, Alabama, before returning to Montana.
