Hand-dyed silk chiffon (commercial, as well as some dyed by the artist), organza, vintage over-dyed fabric of unknown content (perhaps satin), rayon, and monofilament threads, found object.

Aurora I is the first in a series of art quilts inspired by my longing to one day see the Northern Lights, which despite having lived in Canada for 23 years, I've never (yet) witnessed.

Torn strips of silk chiffon and organza are layered on a backing of over-dyed vintage fabric, and then held in place with water soluble stabilizer for free-motion quilting using monofilament thread. This technique was born out of my experimentation with trapping all kinds of different fibers under water soluble stabilizer to make postcards for Fiberart For A Cause.

Carol Moore is in full-time private practice as a psychotherapist and psychoanalyst in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Her work appears in the book Creative Quilting: The Journal Quilt Project edited by Karey Bresenhan.
