Wood boxes, hand-dyed cotton fabric, beads, paperclay face.
Painting, fabric wrapping, hand beading, hand stitching, sculpted face.

My art dolls have taken on an assemblage aspect the past year that I find very liberating. It allows me to capture the emotion of the doll inside the box, placing it as more of a focal point of the piece.

This art doll was created especially with Fiberart for a Cause in mind. The entire project has shown the generosity of fiber artists in a phenomenal way. I lost my father to cancer in 2006 and know the grief this terrible disease can inflict on patients and family alike. My hope is that through projects like this, funds will be raised for more research and more treatments and a cure.

My hope in creating this doll is to honor each participant who so generously donated their creations. The panel hanging in the center displays the word “heart”, a fiber bead, and a peaceful face. When I think of this project, these images come to mind: the exceptional heart of each artist involved, the power of fiber art and all the faces belonging to those people that will be helped by the project.
