The Blue Goddess series was inspired by the prehistoric (c. 23,000 B.C.E.) limestone statuette known as the Venus of Willendorf. The Venus of Willendorf is a wonderful, small piece of art with an economy of expression. A few carved lines serve to convey the immense power of the female form.
