Reviews

Art Quilt XII: Lucky Break by Linda McCurry. "For some of the artists, the show yet another opportunity to extend their well-know series work. Virginia Spiegel's Boundary Waters #32, Barbara Jucaki's Spring Brookside, Linda Colsh's Drawing on the Mist, and Eileen Lauterborn's Unknown Territory all covered familiar themes." Studio Art Quilt Associates Journal, Vol 19, No. 3 (Summer 2009), pgs. 16-17.

Art Quilt X: Narrative, Figurative, Abstract and Post Modern by Thelma Smith. "At first glance, "Correspondence: Joyful Lives" by Virginia A. Spiegel was a joyous collection of studio sweepings, but it was sneaky and deceptive. It pulled me in, demanding that I keep shortening my viewing focal length. It was insistent, and I realized how intentionally the artwork was arranged and how powerfully the thought was expressed." SAQA Journal, Vol. 16, No. 1 (Winter 2006), pgs. 17-20.

Changing The World: One Thread At A Time by Diane Howell. "Virginia A. Spiegel's (Byron, Illinois) Four Hundred Songbirds is a tribute to how 400 migrating songbirds were killed in one night in Wisconsin by communication towers. The towers, abstracted rectangles created with stark color contrast, make the work stand out from a distance. It is the small red embroidery stitches representing the birds that gives it is poignancy and powerful message about the need to protect the smallest living things among us."
Also published in SAQA (Studio Art Quilt Associates) Journal, Spring 2006

Daytona Beach News-Journal, "the radiant rags in 'Black Q" by Nebraska City, Neb. artist Virginia Spiegel seem to have been assembled on a sewing machine gone mad." April 5, 2004.
