Virginia Spiegel is a dedicated fiber artist who is also dedicated to raising funds--lots of funds!-- for the American Cancer Society. She created the 2005-2006 wonderful fiber arts postcard project which raised more than $120,000 for the ACS, and now she has turned her talents to an online book that everyone who loves art will want.
If you sometimes need inspiration, if you find peace and joy in an exquisite photograph of nature's wonders, if you enjoy beautiful thoughts beautifully expressed...you will love Virginia's new online book! Not only is it a super present for yourself, but it's a wonderful present for friends and family.
Everyone needs a little quiet time in their busy day--spend a few minutes or an hour with this lovely book and you'll be refreshed and raring to go.
And the best thing about it is that 100% of the proceeds will go to the American Cancer Society, so you're doing a good deed at the same time!

Reading about Virginia's travels and artwork is such a treat! She weaves her art into her adventures and her adventures into her art. A perfect reminder as an artist to have balance in one's life and that time away from the studio doesn't have to mean time away from creating!

It has always been a treat to get Virginia Spiegel's newsletter in my e-mail box. It's a chance to slow down and read words that remind me of the connection between art, life and nature. Each issue leaves me wanting more. Well, now we're all in luck because Virginia has compiled her newsletters into an e-book, and readers can get a dose of inspiration at the click of the keyboard. I have always been more interested in how an artist creates than what is actually created. With Virginia's new e-book I can have it all - process, production and product, shared in words and stunning photos.

Another fundraiser is from the pen of Virginia Spiegel. Art, Nature, Creativity, Life is a serialised book which is available for a donation to the American Cancer Society. Virginia kindly dropped me a review copy to browse and I must admit that I received it last week but it took me a while to read through what she had actually sent me and it is the type of material that you have to mull over a bit before dashing off a review.
The “book” is actually a series of well thought out, “best of” newsletters that contain brief pieces on creativity, the creative process, inspiration in the form of poetry, imagery, articles, tips and work in progress thoughts.
The everyday becomes inspiring under Virginia’s hand. Art, Nature, Creativity, Life is well written and presented, the photography is exquisite, and the essays are woven together in a manner that leads the reader down an enjoyable path. The compilation is a well rounded and balanced reading experience as there is not too much or too little of anything. The essays are not too sappy or sentimental, neither is it like a sporting coach giving you a pep talk. Virginia hit the right note for me.
These essays are the sort of thing you need to settle down with a cuppa when you want to take a break from studio work and need a dash of inspiration. The compilation is a re-energiser and the money raised goes to good cause. Do consider making a donation.
I have just had an email from Virginia Spiegel to say she has put a sample chapter online. So don’t waste time hanging around here go and check it out.

Haiku for your book:
Musings, inspiration,
Boundary Waters canoeing:
Virginia’s e-book.
I very much enjoyed reading Virginia Spiegel’s e-book, a combination of her musings (in both poetry and prose) on life and art and of her gorgeous photographs of nature in her garden, in her neighborhood and on her trips into the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness.
I had never read an e-book before and it was an interesting experience, since as the reader you get to choose which links to follow, which in turn may lead you to other links. The “chapters” can be read in any order, though as a newbie and traditionalist I opted for almost complete dateline chronology. However it would be very interesting to read them by season instead all the spring chapters, for instance.
I was particularly engaged by how Virginia finds inspiration for her artistic pursuits in every day, even finding a push to create out of the sweat of kick-boxing classes. Reading Virginia’s e-book was inspirational.
BTW, I really think that you should read “The Potter and the Muse” by my aunt Lotte Streisinger. It’s available for sale on the SAQA site.

I've just spent a delicious few minutes reading an essay or two in Virginia Spiegel's new book. I have been a subscriber to her newsletter for a while, so I admit that I had second thoughts about getting the book, but decided, finally, to support the effort, knowing that--as with everything VS does--it would be done well and that the small contribution was to a good cause.Well, folks, I was right to get the book but wrong to be hesitant--the essays have been updated with more information, the haikus add a nice touch to an early morning read, the suggested reading is a treasure trove, and the photographs are inspirational. Everyone should have it!

Sometimes life seems like a tornado, with family commitments, work, social activities, and creative projects swirling around me and making me dizzy. At those times, it's wonderful to find myself in the eye of the storm for a few moments, giving me a chance to pause, take a deep breath, and reflect on something beautiful.
For the past three years, Virginia Spiegel's newsletter Art, Nature, Creativity, Life has provided me with some of those moments of calm reflection. Whether she's sharing a thought-provoking insight into what it means to be an artist, inspiring me with her latest work, or amazing me with her extraordinary photographs, Virginia never fails to remind me that beauty is everywhere, if I only choose to see it.
Thus, I am delighted that Virginia has collected her newsletters into this eBook. The book is a treasure trove of ideas and insights, offering a glimpse into the mind and soul of this gifted artist. I highly recommend the book to anyone who wants ready access to the eye of the storm.

Reading Virginia Spiegel's ebook is like sitting with a good friend on the back porch on a warm spring day. Her smooth writing style combined with her ability to illustrate her point with the perfect photograph amazes me.
Each "chapter" of her ebook is filled with inspiring images, haiku and of course her gorgeous artwork. What a privilege it is to be able to glimpse into her world to see what motivates and challenges this incredibly gifted artist. I will visit the pages of this book again and again when I am in need of inspiration, motivation or just a moment of stillness. A thoroughly enjoyable read and highly recommended.

What a treat to sit and peruse the "pages" of Art, Nature, Creativity, Life. Reading this compilation of e-newsletters from past years has given me the opportunity to revisit Virginia's insightful musings on nature, creativity, and life. Her writings maintain the ability to refresh my spirits and re-energize my creativity no matter how many times I read them; with each reading something new is discovered. The photography is breathtaking, the poetry is magnificent, and the writing is superb. Well done, Virginia, and thank you!

I decided not to read in chronological order, thinking that perhaps a random choice might have something that would "speak" to me. I just finished reading Stubborn is Good ( the title made me curious ) and thoroughly enjoyed it. Your writing is so descriptive, that the imagery comes easily.....I chuckled when you wrote about your cardio kickboxing experiences. I can relate to that from an exercise class a few years ago.
But what spoke to me were your paragraphs on being stubborn in the sewing studio. Today after spending several hours on a project, the end result seemed a disappointment. As I was fixing my cocoa/mocha before sitting down to read your book, I reminded myself about other projects that turned out well. Your writing only helped to reinforce my thoughts...serendipity !
I then opened up In the Moment...but decided to save it for tomorrow. However I scrolled down quickly and saw the inspiration photo of the leaves in the water....what a great composition...nature is so artistic :-) Have you ever made a piece based on that photo ? I like the Recommended Reading section....I'm going to try and find the Twyla Tharp book.
I will be looking forward to my time in the four o'clock hour....enjoying my beverage and reading your book. Thanks, Virginia.

I'm reading from the back to the front... :-) And today I came across the stick tight story and boy! could I identify but I would NEVER have thought to make them into art. Creativity is SUCH an amazing thing. I just love you for all that oozing, amazing creative spirit and for taking the time to share it. Today I was called the marshmallow on top of the hot chocolate...if you like that image, I would like to share it with you because you are DEFINITELY one of MY marshmallows!

Dear Virginia,
I want to tell you how much I like your E-Book. I couldn't put it down until I reached the end. And then, surprise! You added two more chapters today. Sorry I waited so long to subscribe. I didn't know what I was missing.
