Prayer Shawl - Hope and Love

24" wide x 56" long
Private Collection

As chairperson of our local American Cancer Society Relay For Life, I have met incredible people fighting cancer on a day-to-day basis. Their lives inspired this Prayer Shawl:

Click of needles, rhythm of hands, quiet contemplation.
Stories of hope, young and old. Stories of love, rich and poor.
Knit within the stitches thoughts for well-being, for healing, for comfort.
A Prayer Shawl to wrap warm thoughts around someone special.

The Prayer Shawl is an inspired piece. No pattern exists. Machine-washable yarn was utilized so maximum snuggling can occur without worry. The Prayer Shawl is a generous 24" wide x 56" long. Purple is the color for American Cancer Society Relay For Life, as well as representing passion, power, wisdom and spirituality. Contrasting the purple is off-white representing peace, gentleness, protection and a touch of beige-optimism.

The fully reversible hand-knit shawl uses a stitch that creates two "right" sides of knit stitches. Both the purple and the off-white sides have HOPE and LIFE on opposite ends. The greatest challenge was creating HOPE on one side, while simultaneously creating LOVE on the other.
