The Necessity Basket Necklace is just the right size to hold your credit card, driver's license, hotel key card or car key. It is an original design made of ash, alpaca yarns, waxed linen, peacock feather tendrils and thread. It is decorated with a stone.
Mary is an artistic weaver. She continues a family tradition dating back to the 1890s when her great-grandparents supported their family by weaving baskets and willow furniture.
Her goal as an artist is to take the traditional craft of basket weaving to a new level of art and to engage others, both artists and patrons, in the process. Her emphasis in working and teaching is in exploring different techniques, fibers, shapes, textures and colors and their effect on basket design. Many of Mary's techniques are self-taught and a number are completely original ideas for techniques, materials, design and construction.
Mary frequently shares her love of making art and has taught workshops for the National Park Services, colleges and universities, and public schools. She has had several solo shows and received the All Nebraska Artist Award in 2000
