She is a full-time studio artist with an extensive exhibition record and awards. Her work is held in numerous public and private collections. Her artwork depicts ancient ruins in various degrees of abstraction or landscape elements forming a breakdown of these ruins into elemental fragments.
Joanie uses various pigments, disperse and natural dyes, stitching and manipulation of cloth, paper and paint to achieve the illusion of a patina of age.
