Radiant

A bike and a lawn mower! Normally those would go under the Amazing Things A Garbage Truck Can Crush, but this photo won out. Instead, check this out:

An entire kitchen to go! Do they still make these or would this be vintage?

And one of my favorite categories – Garbage Can As Garbage:

And, most unusually, a garbage can IN a garbage can:

Eternal

Can you imagine the entire top of a garbage can full of these foam tubes? It looked like a worm fest!

I hope you are finding a Farmers’ Market near you – the ultimate in reducing packaging, especially if you take your own bags.

My personal fav is the Dane County Farmers’ Market that encircles the state capitol in Madison, WI each Saturday. Unfortunately, it is more than an hour away which kind of evens things out with gas usage. But it is billed as the country’s largest producer-only market. I believe it and we go to find early leeks, early peppers, early anything as well as unusual fruit and veg not found locally. Most farmers are certified organic or follow sustainable growing methods.

If you visit their website, sign up for their e-newsletter, even if you aren’t in the vicinity, for recipes, environmental news – check out this link, and beautiful photos.

What’s Left Behind

The true sign of summer ending: lounge and lawn chairs that can’t be repaired at the end of driveways.

The mystery of the disappearing garbage solved! I have been wondering for some time where all the good (weird, giant, still useful) garbage has gone. Well, today I saw a truck and the bed was full of stuff. The two guys pulled up to my neighbor’s driveway, jumped out, and loaded on anything metal. Of course, scrap metal prices are quite high right now. Good on them; I’m happy the “good stuff” is being recycled. I will just have to be out on the route even earlier.

Green

Sorry about the delay on today’s The Garbage Day Project, but a really wild storm last night caused a power outage until this afternoon. Besides all the blown-down trees, there was garbage out as usual. This was aluminum pans stacked in a green garbage can. Oh, shiny!

We have a guest photographer today. Jenny, my niece, is staying with me for the week and popped out of bed at an hour not known to most twenty-year-olds and came along on the garbage day trek. You have to love that. If you would like to be a guest The Garbage Day Project photographer, drop me a note.I turn it over to Jenny:

Stacked

This is an unusually large tower of kitty-litter boxes. I like the variety of colors and the striping effect created by the way they were stacked.
