Sometimes little bits of garbage are left behind and they tend to stay put until they decompose. I love the contrast in texture and color in this photo.

Here’s a great idea for this time of year – Catalog Choice. “Catalog Choice is a free service that lets you decline paper catalogs you no longer wish to receive. Reduce the amount of unsolicited mail in your mailbox, while helping to preserve the environment.”

I gave this a spin yesterday when my mail came with four catalogs. All four catalogs were in Catalog Choice. The best way to do this is to have the catalog in hand so you can enter your customer number found on the catalog. Be prepared for some clicking through screens to find some catalogs (lots of them under “C” for example and only a few listed per page) and a somewhat slow response time. All in all, a great idea worth the time it takes you to set up your choices.

Promenade

This photo came from a pile of styrofoam and cardboard about eight feet long and six feet wide. It’s the official start of the holiday over-packaging season.

A disco ball. How often are you going to find one of those on top of a garbage can? OK, I’ll admit it, I brought it home. Can you see it hanging on my front porch for the holidays?

Tomorrow is The Garbage Day Project’s first anniversary!

Why have a calendar when you have Garbage Day? We have had two or three hard frosts. Everyone drains their garden hoses and puts away the gardening gear. So in today’s garbage were two garden hoses, one weed whacker (Is the real name string-trimmer?), two hose reels (plastic, of course) and two hoses. And the garden cart below. I am to the point now that I don’t even photograph plastic chairs – two today.
